Problem:
Concrete cancer, rust staining and localised spalling were identified around reinforced concrete elements within a public aquatic centre. Persistent moisture, high humidity and chemically treated water had contributed to reinforcement corrosion affecting pool concourse edges, plant-room soffits, structural beams and supporting columns.
Scope Of Work:
The affected areas were isolated before loose and delaminated concrete was carefully removed. Corroded reinforcement was exposed, cleaned and treated, with supplementary steel installed where specified. The damaged concrete profiles were reinstated using repair mortars suitable for wet and chemically exposed environments, followed by nominated crack repairs and protective coatings.
Outcome:
The affected structural concrete was repaired and reinstated, reducing the risk associated with loose material and continuing reinforcement corrosion. The works were completed in controlled stages so unaffected sections of the facility could remain accessible during the remediation program.
