PROJECT 47 · MARINE CRACK REPAIRS

Project Overview

This $1.4 million marine repair project brought multiple crack-repair areas beneath a large concrete wharf into one staged works package. The project photographs follow the work from exposed crack lines through surface sealing and epoxy injection across beam tops, vertical faces and overhead soffits. Scaffold access above harbour water allowed the repair team to move through connected work zones while maintaining controlled resin placement and inspection.

THE PROBLEM

Connected cracks extend along concrete beam tops, around changes in direction and across overhead soffits. Each repair area needs close inspection to establish the crack condition and suitable treatment.

THE REPAIR

Assess and prepare the nominated cracks, seal the exposed crack lines and install surface-mounted injection points before introducing a suitable epoxy resin under controlled pressure.

OUTCOME

The staged injection works filled and bonded the nominated stable cracks across the treated concrete sections, with curing checks, repair records and verification completed before each work area was released.

SITE CONDITIONS

Over-water scaffold access, restricted headroom, night working conditions and nearby ferry activity shape the access plan, containment arrangements and sequence through the wharf bays.

The photographs document the project during preparation and epoxy injection works across multiple repair zones beneath the wharf.

CONNECTED REPAIR AREAS

Scope of Works

Beam Tops & Returns

Follow the crack runs along accessible horizontal concrete, including corner returns and the areas surrounding support junctions.

Vertical Beam Faces

Prepare and treat nominated cracks along the beam faces, with injection points positioned for the selected repair system.

Overhead Soffits

Access cracks across slab undersides and beam soffits, allowing for overhead preparation, resin control and inspection.

Marine Access & Containment

Plan scaffold work areas, lighting, material handling and containment around the wharf geometry and water below.

CRACK PREPARATION & INJECTION

Before & During Repairs

Compare the exposed crack line with the surface-sealed injection setup. The right-hand view shows equipment installed during repairs, before removal of the injection points and final finishing.

TYPICAL REPAIR SEQUENCE

Controlled Epoxy Injection

The sequence is set by the assessed crack condition, the chosen resin system and the constraints of each marine work area.

  1. Inspect & Map the Cracks

Record the crack runs, accessible faces and visible condition. Assess movement and moisture before confirming which cracks are suitable for epoxy injection.

  2. Establish Access & Protection

Set out the scaffold work zones, lighting and access routes. Plan containment and material handling for preparation and injection above the water.

  3. Prepare the Concrete

Clean the nominated repair surfaces and crack interfaces. Confirm that the substrate and moisture conditions meet the selected repair system requirements.

  4. Seal & Install Injection Points

Bond the surface-mounted injection points and seal the crack line between them, following the specified layout and allowing the surface seal to cure.

  5. Inject & Monitor the Resin

Introduce suitable epoxy resin under controlled pressure. Monitor resin take, adjacent injection points and any leakage, recording progress through each repair zone.

  6. Cure, Finish & Verify

Allow the specified curing period, complete the required checks and record the treated areas. Remove temporary injection equipment and make good surfaces where specified.

BENEATH THE WHARF

Marine Access & Staging

The images show a continuous scaffold route through the wharf structure, with work platforms alongside beam faces and beneath overhead repair areas. A site-specific access plan would coordinate working levels, headroom, lighting and the harbour below.

  • Work platforms positioned for horizontal, vertical and overhead repairs.
  • Contained handling of preparation debris, surface-seal material and resin.
  • Repair stages coordinated with water conditions and adjacent wharf activity.
