Waterfront Marine Edge Beam
Marine edge beam & soffit — Balmain East, NSW.
Project Overview
THE PROBLEM
Severe corrosion and spalling affected the waterfront edge beam, with reinforcement exposed along its face.
THE REPAIR
Damaged concrete was removed, reinforcement treated and the edge beam and soffit rebuilt with compatible mortar.
THE OUTCOME
The beam profile was reinstated and exposed reinforcement enclosed beneath a uniform cementitious repair finish.
SITE CONDITIONS
Marine exposure and work above water required controlled access and management of falling debris.
Before & After
A Controlled Remedial Process
The repair sequence responds to the condition of the concrete, access constraints and surrounding site activity.
Inspection & Defect Mapping
Inspect the affected areas and establish the extent of concrete deterioration before planning access and repair zones.
Controlled Concrete Breakout
Remove unsound concrete back to a suitable substrate while protecting adjoining surfaces and the surrounding work area.
Reinforcement Treatment
Clean and assess exposed reinforcement, with any further steel repairs determined from its condition.
Structural Reinstatement
Place compatible repair mortar and reinstate the concrete profile to the specified repair detail.
Repair Finishing & Curing
Finish the repair faces and cure the material in accordance with the selected repair system.
Final Inspection
Check the repaired areas and remove work-zone protection when the repair and access requirements allow.
