Marine Wharf Rope Access Concrete Remediation
Wharf beams & headstocks — Port Botany, NSW.
Project Overview
THE PROBLEM
Extensive spalling exposed corroded reinforcement across the marine wharf beam and headstock faces.
THE REPAIR
Loose concrete was removed, exposed steel treated and damaged profiles rebuilt with compatible repair mortar.
THE OUTCOME
The repaired beam faces and headstock profiles were reinstated with a continuous cementitious finish.
SITE CONDITIONS
Over-water rope access required controlled work zones and coordination around wharf activity.
Before & After
A Controlled Remedial Process
The repair sequence responds to the condition of the concrete, access constraints and surrounding site activity.
Inspection & Defect Mapping
Inspect the affected areas and establish the extent of concrete deterioration before planning access and repair zones.
Controlled Concrete Breakout
Remove unsound concrete back to a suitable substrate while protecting adjoining surfaces and the surrounding work area.
Reinforcement Treatment
Clean and assess exposed reinforcement, with any further steel repairs determined from its condition.
Structural Reinstatement
Place compatible repair mortar and reinstate the concrete profile to the specified repair detail.
Repair Finishing & Curing
Finish the repair faces and cure the material in accordance with the selected repair system.
Final Inspection
Check the repaired areas and remove work-zone protection when the repair and access requirements allow.
