Have AnEngineer’s Report?
An engineering report is a useful starting point for a repair quotation. Check whether it identifies the problem, specifies the work or requires further investigation before pricing.
Send The Complete Report
Include appendices, drawings and photographs.
Clarify The Next Step
Distinguish recommendations from a repair specification.
Make Pricing Practical
Provide access and building-use information.
Turn The FindingsInto A Clear Pricing Brief
Engineering documents serve different purposes. A condition report may identify defects and recommend further testing. A repair specification may set out materials, preparation, details and inspections. The title alone does not establish which information a contractor can rely on.
Send the complete document, including appendices and the revision date. Cropped screenshots can omit qualifications or drawings that change the scope. Identify any later advice, monitoring results or repairs completed since the inspection.
Ask the contractor to separate work that can be priced now from items needing clarification. Where a design decision is missing, it should go back to the responsible designer rather than being silently replaced by an assumption in the quote.
What To Send With The Report
Include a marked plan showing the affected locations, the building address, available access and the person authorised to arrange a visit. Explain occupation, operating hours, height restrictions and any known temporary safety measures.
Our inspection guide explains the site information that can support scoping.

When More InformationMay Be Needed
A quotation may remain conditional if the report recommends opening up, testing or further design. Ask for those dependencies to be identified instead of treating every recommendation as immediately priceable.
Unconfirmed Repair Quantities
Missing Repair Details
Restricted Or Uninspected Areas
Do not remove access restrictions just because pricing has started. Follow the professional advice already issued. The quotation process and the assessment of structural safety are separate matters.
From Report To Repair Proposal
Share Documents
Provide the full current report, drawings and available photographs.
Arrange Access
Confirm a site contact and access to the nominated locations.
Resolve Queries
Send design questions to the appropriate project adviser.
Compare Proposals
Review scope, assumptions, rates and completion requirements together.

Keep ControlOf The Documents
Use one current document set when obtaining several prices. If the engineer issues a revision, send it to every contractor and ask whether it changes their proposal.
Keep A Register
Record document names, dates and revisions.
Record Answers
Keep clarifications in writing for all tenderers.
Close The Gaps
Resolve responsibility for design, inspections and handover.
What Affects The Quotation?
Scope Completeness
Unresolved recommendations may require provisional allowances.
Quantities
Mapped repair areas and depths support a clearer price.
Site Conditions
Access, protection and occupation affect delivery.
Supporting Work
Testing, temporary works and reinstatement need assigned responsibility.
